Steel Lilac Relational Learning

Active Listening and Holding Space for Your Clients

This class is designed to help stylists from novice to master level, develop personalized ethical standards and create boundaries for themselves while respecting the boundaries of their clients.  Students will gain a unique understanding of the emotional vulnerability felt by clients sitting before them, in front of the mirror.  Other aspects of this relationship between client and stylist include understanding different personality types and how to work with them and having awareness and sensitivity toward clients and their individual distress, whether that be their hair or partner.  Students will have the tools to navigate this grey area between what is discussed with a therapist and what is discussed with a stylist.  Some stylists can experience a heavy emotional burden from discussing intense topics of conversation with their clients.  This class will help stylists tune in to what they are capable of hearing, discussing, and processing while they work.

Learning to listen, hold space for clients and respond appropriately to the various topics that arise in conversation will help each student provide an elevated experience to clients.  This in turn, promotes healthy connections that lead to building trusting relationships with longevity.

The three modules of this course are as follows:

  • Creating An Elevated Salon Experience (Learning from salon complaints and mistakes)
  • The Trade Professional Paradox (Therapy vs. Hairapy)
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (in the salon environment)

When we learn as stylists how to strike a balance between talking and listening, and tapping into our intrinsic power of connection, we can provide a service like no other.  One that leaves clients feeling respected, cared for, and heard.  This connection can promote a ripple effect that reverberates through the lives of others.  All stylists should embrace this amazing opportunity to make a difference in the lives of their clients while learning  about their personal communication preferences along the way.
